Course overview

SIMTRACH is an educational package for therapy staff designed to explore the technical skills, safety related behaviours and non-technical aspects of tracheostomy care in the acute setting.

This course is only for Physio's and SLT's who have completed Foundation Tracheostomy Training and their Tracheostomy Competency Framework

Bart's Health Physiotherapists and Speech and Language Therapists who have completed Foundation Tracheostomy Training and their Tracheostomy Competency Framework only

  • To encourage independent reflection of participant knowledge, skills, behaviour, attitudes and service quality in relation to simulated Tracheostomy scenarios.
  • To experience common Tracheostomy scenarios likely to occur in an acute hospital setting
  • To promote the development of therapy staff from novice to expert Tracheostomy practitioners in a safe environment
  • To expose Therapy staff to the key aspects of Crisis Resource Management within Tracheostomy related clinical scenarios.
  • To evaluate the use of high fidelity simulation as a methodology for effective learning in Tracheostomy management.

Acute Care Skills/ CCOT@RLH and the RLH Simulation Centre

Participants must have completed Foundation Tracheostomy Training and the Bart's Health Tracheostomy Competency Framework to be eligible for this training
