ACS: Invasive Pressure monitoring
Overview
Designed for clinical staff working within Enhanced care units 1.5 or level 2/3 areas: non-paediatric nursing, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, medics
PRE-COURSE WORK MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE ATTENDING THE COURSE
The course is broken into two components; the first component includes an e-learning package that must be completed prior to attending the practical half day session. The e-learning package will include resources on vascular anatomy, advantages & disadvantages, complications, management of invasive lines, and relevant articles.
The practical session of this course is conducted in the medical simulation centres and will enable staff to practice using invasive lines and transducer sets. To conclude the practical session scenarios will be discussed and analysed where complications, trouble shooting and escalations has occurred.

- Identify the need or indications for invasive lines in clinical practice
- Understand the advantages, disadvantages and complications
- Appraise underpinning policy and practice which ensures safe management of invasive lines
- Discuss the anatomy for invasive line insertion
- Develop a fundamental understanding of the equipment and assembly of transducer sets
- Demonstrate and understand: Preparing, priming, sampling and removing invasive lines
- Discuss waveforms and under damping /over damping / trouble shooting
- Critically analyse ‘Serious Incidents’ involving incorrect management of invasive lines
